Vote Yes For Libraries
During the 2026 general election, registered voters across Lancaster County will be asked to Vote Yes for Libraries. On November 3rd, the question will be posed:
“Shall the County of Lancaster establish a dedicated Library tax to provide for the maintenance of, and aid to, public Libraries in Lancaster County at the rate of .55 mills on the dollar on all taxable real estate within the County of Lancaster?”
Our Goal
The goal of this dedicated Library tax is to provide stable, sufficient, and secure funding for public Library services across the county. Proceeds from this dedicated tax can only be used to fund public Libraries in Lancaster County.
We need petitions signed to get on the ballot.
Where Will Your Money Go?
Stable Funding
A dedicated Library tax takes Library funding out of the general funds of the local municipalities, including Lancaster County. The dedicated tax provides a predictable stream of funding so Libraries can provide consistent, even growing, services over time.
Sufficient Funding
This proposed referendum provides sufficient funding for Libraries to restore services that have been cut due to severe funding cuts over time. This tax also invests sufficient funds so that Libraries can respond to escalating needs and demand.
Secure Funding
Passing this dedicated Library tax removes decision making about funding public Library services, and at what amount, from the hands of municipal leaders. Funding for public Libraries will no longer be held captive by the whims of those currently in office.
